Campus Ministry

Campus Crusade for Christ was started in 1951 by Bill and Vonette Bright on the UCLA campus. The vision was to "win the campus today and change the world tomorrow." Over 50 years later the vision remains the same, seeking to reach college students for Christ, build them up in their faith in a community of believers, and send them out as ambassadors for Christ wherever God calls them. Today, the campus ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ is a network of vibrant, growing movements on 1,029 campuses in the United States and around the world through which millions of college students are exposed to the Gospel each year.

The college campus today is a place where students are often faced with professors who actively challenge the Christian world view and attempt to weaken the faith of their students. They face a culture of sexual, drug, and alcohol abuse that is defined as "normal." We are convinced that the problems seen on the college campus today are only the symptoms of a spiritual problem. Students are seeking purpose, love and intimacy, and the abundant life in things that will ultimately leave them empty. The only solution to the problems we see is for students to enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ and be transformed by his Spirit and his grace. Only in this relationship do people find hope and purpose that satisfy.

Our driving spiritual mandate is found in Matthew 28:18-20:

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and earth has been
given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the
     very end of the age."

We believe the college campus to be a strategic place to reach the world for Christ. It is a place that is increasingly global, with students from around the state, the country, and the world, all coming to one place. It is a time when many students make the decisions that set the direction for the rest of their lives and where most determine what they are going to believe. The college campus is also a place where dialogue is encouraged. So we make it our goal to engage with as many students as possible, sharing the Gospel message of God's love, our sinfulness and need for Christ's sacrifice on the cross to save us from our sins. We strive to build up students in their faith within a community of believers and then send them out after college equipped to be ambassadors for Christ wherever God calls them.

The following from www.campuscruasadeforchrist.com - About us

The structure of our ministry is designed to reach the most number of students in the most effective   ways. There are four areas of ongoing focus:

    Catalytic

Faced with the realization that 7 million college students are on campuses having no full-time Campus Crusade staff, Catalytic staff members are trusting God for a vital, effective ministry on every unreached campus. We look for the "catalyst" on a specific campus - a key student, a church partnership, a professor - who can help launch and lead the ministry. We currently have 700 campuses with ministries like this. To learn about how to start a ministry on a campus, visit Godsquad.com

    Ethnic Student Ministries

The campus population is changing rapidly. As more and more ethnic students come to campus, they are increasingly immersing themselves in an ethnic student subculture on campus. If we are to reach these students, we cannot rely on traditional means of ministry. Ethnic Student Ministries (ESM) formed out of a burden to see ethnic college students have at least one chance to hear the gospel. There are now 64 ESM movements on campuses nationwide. Currently there are three national movements within ESM that have the same mission, but directed toward different ethnic groups:

    Staffed Campuses

Traditionally our ministry has a team of staff based on a major state university. That team is focused on getting the gospel in front of every student on that campus, building into the lives of Christian students and raising up leaders among the students to go abroad and help launch new ministries.

    Worldwide Student Network (WSN)

There are 60 million college students around the world. This represents only 1 percent of the world's population--the "powerful percent." These are the future leaders of the nations. WSN is the international effort of the campus ministry to serve the nations of the world in reaching college students.
